Membrane Technology

FUJIFILM is developing Gas separation membranes and Ion Exchange Membranes. Membranes are increasingly competing with conventional separation techniques on price and performance. For more information on our membranes, you can contact membranes@fujifilm.eu.

Ion Exchange membranes

FUJIFILM is developing Ion Exchange Membranes. These membranes selectivity allow positively or negatively charged particles to pass through, due to which they are removed from the liquid. These membranes remove undesired charged particles such as salts, calcium and nitrates. Areas of application for ion exchange membranes include water purification at both the industrial as well as the household levels (desalination, water softening, etc.). The membranes are expected to be launched into the market in 2010.

Gas Separation Membranes

FUJIFILM also develops gas separation membranes. These membranes select and separate gas/vapor molecules based on their size and chemical/physical properties. With this process, mixed gas streams can be stripped of any pollution, such as CO2 en H2S. Areas of applications for gas separation membranes are natural gas purification, biogas purification for green gas production, carbon dioxide removal from flue gas, hydrogen production and hydrocarbon emission limitation in the petrochemical industry.

Saving energy

These membrane applications have a clear added value in saving energy. Moreover, the technology reduces raw material use and greenhouse emissions and contributes to cleaner water and air.
